The organisers of one of the biggest golfing events in the world need the public’s help to find a golfing legend who lived in Dorset.

The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (R&A) is keen to find Tessa Ross Steen as 2019 marks 100 years since the first British Girls’ Championship was held.

It is inviting all past champions to a celebratory dinner.

Tessa Ross Steen was British Girls’ Champion and South West Ladies’ Champion in 1958 and received several national and international caps.

She was a member of Came Down Golf Club in Dorchester from the early 1950s to the mid 1960s.

It is quite possible that she is no longer alive.

Ann Talbot, Dorset Ladies’ Handicap Adviser and a member of Came Down Gold Club, said: “I would really appreciate your help, if possible, in making contact with Tessa.”

Anyone with any information on her whereabouts is asked to contact Ann Talbot by emailing juantab46@gmail.com or calling 07929542325.

The R&A organises The Open, golf’s oldest and most international major championship.
