STAFF at Dorchester Town Council have been praised for their efforts in making the town tidy and smart for the annual Remembrance events.

The events including the unveiling of the new public sculpture “all you need is love” by local artist Mike Chapman on a site opposite the war memorial.

Outdoor services manager for the council, Carl Dallison, said staff had also worked hard in the run up to Remembrance weekend installing new seats and planters at the bottom end of South Street and in preparing for the beacon lighting at Salisbury Field.

Cllr Molly Rennie offered her congratulations to all of the council staff for their efforts in marking Remembrance respectfully and with the town looking its best.

“Everything looked exceptionally tidy..so well done to everyone involved,” she said at Tuesday evening's policy committee.

She also asked that more of an explanation about the new sculpture be included in the next council newsletter. The sculpture has twin in Dorchester's linked German town of Lubbecke, also make by Mr Chapman.

“People are saying that they like it, but they like it even more when you tell them what's behind it,” she said.
