A BOURNEMOUTH street has experienced four power cuts in the past three weeks, according to an angry local resident.

Brightlands Avenue in Tuckton, whose electricity is supplied by Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks, has lost power four times since October 17 due to a fault in an underground cable. The most recent power cut was on Monday at 10am.

Yvonne Marascalchi, who lives on Brightlands Avenue, says she was “disgusted” and “didn’t know why it had taken so long to resolve”.

“The street that I live on is a mixed residential street," she said. "There are families with babies and elderly ladies who live independently which is a major concern."

After experiencing three previous faults over the past three weeks, each lasting for almost an hour, Mrs Marascalchi called SSEN after the fourth outage.

The company told her specialist equipment had been installed at a nearby substation to reset the fuse and switchgear to resolve the problem. However, as the equipment was due to be installed, the street lost electricity for a fourth time, leaving homes without power for an hour and a half.

SSEN said work is now scheduled to replace the faulty cable and each affected property will receive a letter advising of the date and time at least one week ahead of the work starting.

A SSEN spokesman said: “We would like to apologise to our customers in Brightlands Avenue for the recent temporary interruptions to their electricity supplies and reassure them that our engineers did everything they could to restore the power as safely and as quickly as possible.”
