BOSS Callum Brooks admitted Hamworthy United's winning return to action had been their best display "in a while", writes JACK TANNER.

After last week slumping to defeat at home to Verwood Town in the Dorset Senior Cup, Hammers romped to a 3-0 victory against Brockenhurst.

Reflecting on the Wessex Premier success, Brooks told the Daily Echo: “We went about every part of our business well. It was a really solid performance and our best in a while.

“The key thing was to keep Tuesday’s defeat in perspective. In the previous two Saturdays, we had won really tough games against Lymington and Falmouth, and we’ve done that again."

Debutant Mickey Finch opened the scoring after the break and the hosts notched further goals through Dan Cann and Luke Stone.

Discussing Finch's efforts, Brooks said: “The only criticism is that he was late. But I don’t think he could have started better than that.

“I thought he was really good. Every time he had the ball he had an idea and a purpose. He was a constant threat.”

Hammers travel to Portland tomorrow, where ex-Hammers boss Brendon King is in charge.

“We can go there without any added pressure. If we play like we did against Brockenhurst, we have every chance of getting a result," said Brooks.

“We’ve got a short block of four league games and we’re aiming for a good points haul."
