PUPILS from schools across Poole and Purbeck have been taking part in a special competition that encourages them to get active.

Beat the Street invites pupils to see how far they can walk, cycle or run in the space of six weeks.

Players record journeys and score points by tapping their dedicated Beat the Street card or fob on sensors – called Beat Boxes - which are placed on lampposts and other street furniture across the dedicated routes across Poole, Swanage, Upton and Wareham.

The competition started on October 3 and runs until Wednesday.

Each journey the youngsters make adds points to their total as well as that of their team and the whole of Poole and Purbeck.

Schools taking part include Hamworthy Park Junior School, Baden Powell St Peter's Primary School and Stoborough Primary School.

The school that comes in first place will win £300 of sports and fitness vouchers and a trophy with £200 of vouchers for second place and £100 for third place.

Beat the Street is being delivered by Intelligent Health and is funded by The National Lottery through Sport England, and Public Health Dorset.
