A MAN had to be rescued from his car after it became stuck in a flooded ford, as wind and rain battered Dorset on Friday night.

A weather warning was issued from the Met Office along with two flood warnings for Swanage and Christchurch ahead of the stormy weather.

At Mudeford, waves overtopped the quayside, as pictured by Steve Hogan, with extra flood defences from the Environment Agency and Purbeck District Council helping to protect the seafront at Swanage.

Along with Swanage Town Council, the teams installed the defences earlier this week to protect the Square and lower High Street area.

Two fire crews from Sturminster Newton were sent to Dark Lane in Fifehead Neville just before midnight where a car was stuck in two and a half feet of water.

Crews used wading gear and a patient carrying sling to carry the gentleman from his vehicle to dry land.

The driver, who was uninjured, was able to return home shortly afterwards.
