AWARD-WINNING dance theatre show The Troth, presented in association with the British Army, comes to Bournemouth this Remembrance Sunday.

Choreographed by Gary Clarke, The Troth by Akademi, tells a story of love, loss and sacrifice against the backdrop of the First World War through dance, music and film.

Over 1.3 million Indians contributed active service during the war. They were the largest voluntary force ever assembled and their losses were huge.

To celebrate this special Remembrance Sunday performance of The Troth, Pavilion Dance South West is hosting a free pre-show community event where people are invited to remember the contribution of both international and British WWI veterans.

There will be tea, dancing and chance to share stories. Places are free but capacity is limited, see details below.

Based on an iconic Hindi short story from 1915, The Troth tells the story of one soldier and the sacrifice he makes in the trenches of Belgium to keep his secret promise to an unrequited love.

Wartime archive footage and new subtitled films by Josh Hawkins unfold the narrative. BASCA award-winning composer Shri Sriram’s original composition is laced with evocative sounds from the war and Indian folk music. The British Armed Forces advised the creative team on military training, movement, aesthetics and music of the period.

The six superb performers are Dom Coffey, Mithun Gill, Alistair Goldsmith, Deepraj Singh, Subhash Viman Gorania and Vidya Patel, finalist in BBC Young Dancer of the Year 2015 who has performed to great acclaim with Richard Alston Dance Company.

In the run up to The Troth, PDSW is also running a series of Bollywood Dance classes led by classically trained teacher, Kamalesh Borker.

The free community event is at 2pm. To book, visit pdsw.org.uk/shows/the-troth-community-event. Tickets for the main show at 4pm are priced at £14/£12. Call 01202 203630. or visit pdsw.org.uk/shows/the-troth-by-akademi
