THE Met Office has updated its severe weather warning for rain and wind for today.
The yellow warning – meaning be aware – is valid from 1pm until just before midnight. It was originally in force from 9am until 9pm.
The Light Up the Prom event due to take place tonight has been postponed as a result of the forecast.
A Met Office spokesperson said: “Rain will be accompanied by strong winds with gusts of 50 mph possible inland and perhaps 60 mph around some coasts.”
Conditions could cause some delays to roads users and public transport.
It is the second weather warning to be issued this week.
An earlier warning was in force on Wednesday.
Flooding occurred on Christchurch Quay and temporary flood barriers have been put in place on Swanage seafront.
