HUNGRY diners turned out in their droves for free vegan pizza in Bournemouth town centre last night.

Popular eatery The Stable in Westover Road was giving away free vegan pizza from 6pm until close as part of World Vegan Month.

People were treated to vegan mulled cider and vegan brownies as they queued with musical entertainment also provided.

At 6pm the queue ended parallel with the rear entrance to House of Fraser in Gervis Place.

Executive chef Patrick Campbell has come up with five vegan pizzas following some intense product testing including a version made with jackfruit.

The menu has also been created using vegan cheese made with coconut oil that was soya free, which is one of the 14 listed allergens.

He said they “easily” expected to see around 300 people turn out especially for the giveaway.

Some of the diners in the queue said they attended after seeing posts on social media.

One pizza fan said it was good to see so many people turn out for the event and hopefully they were "saving a few cows."

Bookings were not permitted for the event and diners were served on a first-come-first-served basis.
