AN INTERNATIONAL kebab chain’s bid to open a restaurant in Bournemouth will be decided by councillors next week.

German Doner Kebab (GDK) has lodged plans to open late at night from its premises in Old Christchurch Road.

Submitted in September, its proposals seek permission to open between 11pm and 3am, seven days a week from the former Ripple Gelato store.

A statement submitted with the licence application says: “As an international brand, GDK has high standards in food, public safety, staff training and prevention of nuisance.

“Full and standard GDK staff training at head office is carried out in person and is an intense course with monthly reviews of management and staff.”

It adds that the firm has no intention to serve alcohol.

The application has been opposed by the owner of three of the five flats above the premises who said that the 3am closing time would lead to “a considerable increase in disturbance” to their tenants.

It will be considered by Bournemouth council’s licensing board on Tuesday (November 13).
