A MAN who allegedly tried to attack a PC with a hammer has appeared in court.

Christopher Reid, of Lagland Street in Poole, was charged with a series of offences after police were called to an incident in Dale Close, Oakdale on April 4.

On Friday, Reid, 35, appeared at Poole Magistrates' Court, but did not enter pleas to threatening a person with an offensive weapon in a public place, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent, six counts of criminal damage and four counts of possessing a kitchen knife in a public place.

He was given conditional bail to appear at Bournemouth Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing in December.

On the night of the alleged incident, police were called to reports that a man was smashing windows and vandalising cars.

Several cars were reportedly damaged, including a white Fiat Panda which had its windscreen, back window and side windows smashed.

A female PC suffered minor injuries.
