A SPECIAL tribute to 99 soldiers from Swanage who fought in the First World War and never returned home has been placed in church grounds.

The display in St Mary’s features the metal poppies, which were produced by the veterans’ forge at Knitson, leading to the church in rows of three.

This is to replicate soldiers who would march in lines of three.

Each poppy was made individually and they are all unique from one another.

Team Rector the Very Rev John Mann said the poppies were something personal to the people of Swanage and honoured those who died serving their country.

Rev Mann is set to lead the Remembrance Sunday service in Swanage at St Mary’s from 2.30pm. This follows a two minute silence at 11am at the war memorial.
