SECONDARY schools across Dorset are celebrating their success after topping the tables for progress.
Magna Academy and Glenmoor and Winton Academies have seen their Progress 8 scores propel them to the top of the local tables - and place them both in the top one per cent of schools nationally.
Progress 8 is the main performance measure from the Department for Education. Under this, Magna Academy’s new provisional score of 1.04 is the highest rating of any secondary school in Poole.
It also places them 38th in all schools across England.
Richard Tutt, academy principal, said: "I am so very proud of our students. In raising the bar ever higher on Progress 8, they are continuing to delight us.
"They are still going from strength to strength by improving yet again our academy scores.
"The figures demonstrate just how hard our students and staff work to achieve the highest possible grades.
"All of us at Magna, students, staff, parents and carers, are delighted to see how hard work has paid off.
"Now, more than ever, we must work together to help the young people in our care realise highly successful futures. The response they have given here strongly suggests they will deliver on their potential to succeed."
Glenmoor and Winton Academies are also celebrating following the publication of the results last month (October), with Glenmoor scoring 1.05, placing them 36 in England, and the top school in Dorset.
Glenmoor's Progress 8 figure also sees them fall into the top one per cent of schools nationally, with Winton in the top five per cent.
Both academies are the only comprehensive schools in Bournemouth to have been recognised as ones in which students make 'well above average' progress.
Executive principal, Ben Antell, said: ‘I am delighted that our results, along with those of many other local schools, demonstrate the fact that parents in Bournemouth have such an excellent comprehensive offer for their children’s secondary education. "These exam results demonstrate that our students, including the very brightest, make better progress than those at local grammar schools, something I hope parents will consider when making their secondary school choices."
In Dorset, The Swanage School, topped the board with a Progress 8 score of 0.55, which was also 'well above average'.
