A VILLAGE vicar has stepped in to ensure the annual Christmas community event foes ahead.

Rev Rachel Noël, vicar at St Mark’s church, was approached by Mayor Anne Corbridge and Cllr Michael White about Pennington’s Christmas Village Fayre. The event was in doubt after previous organiser Eric Light moved away and the Pennington Residents’ Association folded.

However, the church, the Musketeer pub, Pennington Sports & Social club, the council, and residents have ensured the event will go ahead from 6pm on Friday, November 30.

Rev Noël, who joined the parish in June, said: “I’m excited to see the determination and drive of so many local people to ensure that Pennington’s community events can continue.”

“I am committed to developing the community of Pennington, helping us to work together, using the many talents and skills of local people to create something for everyone to enjoy.”

Teresa Nivison, churchwarden at St Mark's, said: "When we appointed Rachel, we created a role with a focus on developing links with the church and the community. The church is here for everyone in Pennington, and this event helps us to show that care for the community in a practical way."
