A 63-YEAR-OLD woman arrested after an alleged stabbing at a retirement home has been released under investigation and detained under the Mental Health Act.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent after an elderly man suffered minor wounds to his stomach during an incident at Talbot Woods Court in Walton Road, Bournemouth on Thursday October 25.

The man was taken to hospital but was discharged on the same night when his injuries were found to be minor.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said the man and woman are known to each other.

Talbot Woods Court has 40 flats for people aged 60 and over.

Gary Josey, director of housing and communities at Bournemouth council, said after the incident: "We take the safety and wellbeing of all residents extremely seriously.

"We would like to reassure residents this was an isolated incident and all measures will be taken to ensure Talbot Woods Court is a safe environment for everyone."
