The Prime Minister made a surprise visit to Twynham School in Christchurch on Wednesday morning.
Gordon Brown visited an A-Level maths class, and met pupils taking a vocational course in hairdressing. The premier was offered a haircut in the school's salon for £2.50.
Mr Brown was greeted by Twynham's headmaster, Dr Terry Fish, who said the visit spoke volumes about the school.
Head boy Kenny Aruwa and head girl, Lucy Speck also welcomed Mr Brown to the school. Miss Speck told the PM that she hoped to study history at St Andrews University - his father's alma mater.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by education secretary Ed Balls, and minister for women Harriet Harman.
