BOURNEMOUTH'S sandy beaches and glorious sunshine proved too tempting for a group of pensioners who "stripped off" as part of a protest against the government.

The Pensions Action Group couldn't wait to get on to the beach to perform their now traditional "Stripped Of Our Pensions" demonstration.

Passers-by looked on in bewilderment as the group of 100 people grabbed their five minutes of fame in their flesh-coloured body stockings.

And their publicity drive was given a massive boost when former Labour leader Lord Kinnock strolled across the sand to see what the fuss was all about.

He ignored anti-Labour chants and didn't bat an eyelid when they dubbed him the "Welsh windbag" during the demonstration, which lasted for around an hour.

Their message was a serious one but the atmosphere was largely cheerful as they urged Gordon Brown to take action to help them.

The group wants the government to do more to help those who have suffered due to the collapse of occupational pension schemes.

They blame the Prime Minister and claim he contributed to the collapse of final salary pension schemes by scrapping pension tax relief.

Pensioners shouted: "Gordon Brown is a clown, Gordon Brown let us down" as crowds gathered on Bournemouth pier to get a glimpse of the action.

Dozens of police officers and eight police horses were on the scene to ensure everything went smoothly.

It was just one of a number of noisy demonstrations held near the BIC yesterday.

The National Council of Resistance of Iran took centre stage in the morning, highlighting the "State of Terror" in Iran under the leadership of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

The group is a coalition of democratic Iranian organisations, groups and personalities and was particularly urging the international community to act to stop hangings in Iran.

Plans for a march by pro-smoking group Forest were cancelled but the group held a champagne barbecue at the Royal Bath Hotel in conjunction with the Free Society instead.
