A 'BESPOKE arts and crafts-style residence' could be built in an affluent Poole road after council officials gave the project the green light.

The three-storey property, which would have six bedrooms, four reception rooms and a triple garage, would be built on a plot at 2 Mornish Road, Branksome Park.

Architects described the existing home as a "watered-down and poorly-handled Voysey-esque pastiche" and labelled it "uninspiring" and "not a building of particular architectural or historic interest".

The new property will be a red brick with stone bays, a red clay tile roof, brick chimneys and painted timber casements. It will cover some 10,000 square feet.

The scheme was supported by neighbours living nearby.

One, Nicole Harper, called the property "magnificent", adding: "It is far superior visually to the existing house."

John Harris, of Glen Road, said the detailed drawings show a "practical and modern home".

Clive Kunkler said: "This proposed dwelling is an updated and sympathetic replacement of the existing dwelling, which fits comfortably on the plot with comprehensive screening on all boundaries. "We enthusiastically support the application."

A large private garden will be retained at the site, which spans three-quarters of an acre.

Houses in Mornish Road sell for up to £1.6m.

Poole council has previously granted planning permission for a two-storey extension to the side of the existing property. The consent lapsed without the extension being built.

In 2009, planning permission was granted for a five-bedroom detached home with an attached garage on land adjacent to the existing home. Five years later, in 2014, consent was given for a new home with integral garages at 4 Mornish Road.
