A BESTSELLING author has visited pupils at Heathlands Primary School to celebrate their new library.

Author Maz Evans, who wrote Who Let the Gods Out?, Simply the Quest and Beyond the Odyssey, has been working with the school in West Howe as a reading patron for the past year.

Staff at the school have created a school library based on the theme of adventure.

Ms Evans said: "The love and care that has gone into the new Heathlands library is just wonderful to see - it's been such a team effort. From the Tardis doors to the Narnia lamppost, the kids now have a portal to infinite universes in their new library. My warmest congratulations to all concerned."

The library includes mezzanine reading area, Dr Who tardis doors (see pic) and 100 Acre Wood reading area.

Deputy head, Mr Paulley, said: "The dedication and vision of the staff has brought this together.

"Mr Knight, our site manager has built most items by hand, Mrs Walpole and Mrs Joy have made and displayed all of the decorations and colour and even our head teacher drew on her craft skills to create a handmade wooden signpost. "So many staff members have played a key role in making this happen. The determination from all staff to give the children a library they can be proud of and one that represents our school values is truly special. We believe this will help us continue on our quest to develop enthusiastic, competent and motivated readers across the age groups.”

Heathlands Primary Academy is holding an open morning on Monday November 12 at 9.15am.
