A FORMER dental surgery in Boscombe will be converted into two flats.

Developer TCI Construction Ltd has been granted planning permission for the conversion of the Wootton Lodge Dental Practice at 717 Christchurch Road.

The practice went into liquidation in April this year leaving many patients without a dentist, and NHS staff had to redirect patients with appointments to other surgeries in the area.

Others were advised to contact the 111 helpline to find a dentist for urgent treatment.

Wootton Lodge provided both NHS and private dental treatment to its patients.

The scheme comprises two one-bedroom flats each with a parking space, with no external alterations.

A report by council planning officer Richard Cable states: "Proposals make a small contribution to meeting housing need in the borough at a highly sustainable location – services and transport facilities – at a previously used site."

The report calls the outlook and privacy of the flats "acceptable given the context".
