A CHRISTCHURCH based charity says it is at risk of being made homeless this Christmas unless they can raise £325,000.

The Water Lily Project, based at Bailey's Cafe in Barrack Road, supports victims of domestic violence, women battling mental health conditions, social isolation, addictions and debt.

But they could be forced to leave their premises once an agreement comes to an end, they say.

The charity took on the running of the cafe in 2014, saving the premises from closure. But in March this year, the Water Lily Project took over the running of the whole building under a tenancy at will arrangement with Dorset County Council, successfully applying to Christchurch council to be registered as an asset of community value. This gave the organisation six months to raise the capital to buy the building.

But now they need some help.

The 'safe cafe' serves food, and has an IT suite where internet access and support is available to the public. Training is also provided as well as art and craft activities and a choir in the back room.

Upstairs, a three-bedroom flat would be let as social housing.
