A DAY of the Dead fiesta is returning to Bournemouth with the town's next Metropole Street Market.

The event, takes place on Sunday, October 28 with its last outing of the year. Based on the traditional Dias de Los Muertos Mexican celebration of the ancestors, the Day of the Dead was one of the market's most popular themes last year.

Organisers are reprising the theme for October’s market in response to overwhelming requests from market-goers and hope that more people than ever will dress up for the colourful celebration of life and death and join in the interactive processions at 12.15 pm and 2.15 pm, when musicians, Skull Drummers and children from First Position School of Dance will lead the march down Holdenhurst Road.

Each Metropole Market features an eclectic mix of stalls selling local produce, vintage clothes, arts and crafts, and street food from around the world. Matching the Day of the Dead theme, the next market will also feature Mexican inspired street entertainment and Latin musical performances, including Bournemouth-based six-piece Band, Salsappeal. Returning entertainers also include steam punk band, Atlantico, plus young artist, Grace.

Lyn Turnbull, one of the main event organisers, said: “Last year the Day of the Dead theme seemed to really capture people’s imagination. Lots of stall holders and market goers got into the spirit of the event - hundreds dressed up and clearly put a lot of effort into their costumes. We’re hoping for an even better response this time – especially as it’s the last Metropole Market of the year.”

Metropole Market is funded by Bournemouth Town Centre BID and takes place along the whole of Holdenhurst Road, closed to traffic for the duration of the event.
