THE creation of a list of potential gypsy and traveller sites in Dorset is expected to be delayed for a second time.
A Dorset-wide document outlining sites for travellers had been due to be published in June but councils’ inability to find sites and local government reorganisation have been blamed for this date being pushed back again.
After not being ready for the initial deadline, the list was expected to be prepared and ready for consultation this month but this has now been delayed until January.
A report to this week’s meeting of North Dorset District Council says that the delay is due to difficulties in finding sites and local government reorganisation in the county.
It says: “There have been delays due to some authorities identifying sufficient sites, coupled with that is the fact that as we get even nearer to local government review the document itself will need to be restructured to reflect the new council areas.”
Councils which have yet to identify sites will have to do so and a further six-week consultation period will need to be held before the document is ready to be submitted and brought into force.
