The call is out to 'Love Swanage'

The initiative, scheduled for The Swanage School, is being organised by Litter Free Coast and Sea, and celebrates the local natural environment.

It will also coincide with the launch of the 'Love our Beach' Swanage Campaign, which will be reaching out to residents and businesses with a series of activities highlighting ways to reduce the impact of fats, oils and greases in the drainage system.

Project officer Sarah Spurling said: "Did you know that waste cooking oil from your kitchen can be converted into renewable energy?

"Used cooking oil is collected at the household recycling centre in Swanage and transformed into green energy, generating electricity for UK homes and businesses."

The added benefit of collecting all your used cooking oil and recycling, Sarah explains, is that it ensures that it doesn’t end up down the drain where it can cause blockages in pipes and at the sewage works.

She added: "These blockages and fat build ups can lead to sewage spills in the sea which we would all like to avoid.

"Simple, affordable tweaks to our habits like this all add up to improving bathing water quality, keeping it excellent every day."

The free event will also include bushcraft sessions, and a pop-up foraging walk by local experts Fore Adventure, wildlife activities with the Durlston Rangers, plus arts and crafts.

A spokesman explained: "Have a cuppa and admire a collection of stunning photographs of the area and artwork by local children.

"Visit stands from a collection of local organisations and discover how they are giving people the chance to enjoy and look after the local environment, showing how we can all help protect it through simple, affordable changes in our everyday lives."
