A FAMILY who were forced out of their home after a tree came crashing through the ceiling have spoken of their frustration at a lack of communication since the incident.

Sandra Coomber and her daughter have been living with her parents since the severe damage was caused during Storm Bronagh more than three weeks ago.

Scaffolding has been erected around the property in Ensbury Court, Bournemouth, however Ms Coomber said she has not been given full details on when she can return to her home.

She told the Daily Echo that despite contacting housing association Sovereign several times, they often fail to get back to her about her concerns.

“It has been difficult at times and the sleeping situation isn’t great,” Ms Coomber said.

“When I have tried to get updates it has been frustrating trying to get any information. Every person I speak to says they have to got to someone else first. I have no direct point of contact.

“We have been sleeping on the sofa and camp beds at my parents, which is obviously not brilliant.”

Andy Hayward, maintenance manager for Sovereign, said the work to the roof is expected to take eight weeks, but added they will do “everything they can” to complete it sooner.

“We’d like to thank the residents of Ensbury Court for their patience while we work to make their home safe for them to return,” he said.

“The roof has been made watertight, scaffolding has been put up to enable work to begin as soon as possible and a safe access route has been created for the residents to enter and leave the building.

“Arrangements have been made for Ms Coomber to access the property when she needs to and we’re trying hard to find suitable accommodation for her in the local area, so that she can stick to her normal routine as far as possible.

“We’re putting her belongings in storage to make sure that they are kept safe while the work is going on.”

Jamie Edwards and his family, who live in the flat below Ms Coomber, also had to move out of their home, while structural assessments are carried out.

Mr Hayward said they are due to return to their property this week.
