PLANS for a new Travelodge hotel have been submitted to Poole council.

The national budget hotel chain is looking to build an 81-bedroom hotel at Fleets Corner Business Park, on the site formerly occupied by the Combustion House building.

A drive-thru Starbucks is being built adjacent to the site of the proposed hotel.

The potential second Travelodge in Poole comes just two years after the chain opened their £8 million hotel at Holes Bay.

The firm, which currently operates 562 hotels in the UK, recently selected Poole as one of 10 key cruise port destinations where they want to open another branch.

According to a design and access statement by PRC Group, which was submitted with the planning application, the proposed Travelodge fronting Waterloo Road will “primarily target the business user market”.

“The proposed hotel will provide opportunities to attract visitors of businesses within the business park to stay locally and provides good accessibility to main roads, including the A3049 Dorset Way and A349 Waterloo Road,” PRC Group said.

“Since opening in July 2016, the existing Travelodge in Poole has traded strongly, with a high average occupancy. This opportunity will provide a complementary location to the existing hotel.”

The five-storey hotel would also feature a bar/café and function space. The proposed car park would accommodate 80 spaces, as well as four motorcycle spaces and eight bicycle spaces.

PCA Group says in its design statement that the new Travelodge would generate between 25 and 30 jobs.

“This proposed development would bring a leading brand hotelier to Fleets Corner Business Park, enhancing the profile of the estate and... its outwards appearance.

“The proposed Travelodge Hotel will offer additional complimentary support services to the business park and surrounding businesses and residents.

“It will provide accommodation for business users and the bar café area will be a flexible space that can be used for eating, informal meetings and will have the potential to be used by business users for training, functions and meetings. This facility will help the business park to continue to grow and thrive, helping to retain existing users and make the site more attractive to employers and employees.”
