Name: Tom Ormerod

Years behind the lens: 18 months as an enthusiast, many as a point and click

Current Camera: Olympus OM-D E-M1 MKII and OM-D E-M10 MKII + a selection of lenses, my favourites being the Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12–40mm f/2.8 PRO & the Laowa 7.5mm f/2

Dream camera: I am really happy with my current set-up but I am keeping my eye on the full frame mirrorless market ….. You never know what they will come up with next.

Piece of equipment you couldn’t be without: Apart from my camera…. my bike.

Favourite Dorset location: Tricky one, I have 3 depending on what I am shooting….Sunrise - Mupe Bay, Sunset - Broad Bench & Astro - St Aldhelm's Head but I am happy anywhere along the coast :-)

Dream location: Iceland is the one I am currently dreaming of but there are so many places I want to shoot.

Worst photographic mishap: Watching my 1 month old camera tumble from my tripod and bounce on the rocks at Portland… the lack of a mirror, the metal L bracket and the filter holder helped, I got away with the tiniest of scratches on a dial. +1 for Olympus build quality.

Best photographic success: I'm very new to all this but getting my pictures in the Echo makes me smile. Getting my Summer Solstice Sunset 2017 as the "Pic of the day" is what spurred me on to take and share more shots.

Top tip: Photopills App - awesome planning and geek tool - Sun, Moon & Milky Way positions/times + all the photography tools such as depth of field and star trail calculators.

What you’ve gained/learnt from or liked about Echo Camera Club Dorset: I genuinely love the friendliness of it, there are people that do this for a living, enthusiasts and people that just love being out and about in the area and everyone just gets along
