A NUMBER of events to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War have been planned in New Milton.

The town council and community groups have come together to ensure the historic occasion is formally marked with a series of events for all ages.

As well as 18 Silent Soldier Silhouettes around the town, giant poppies will appear around the town centre from October 26.

The Remembrance Day parade will set off on November 11 at 10.30am under the direction of parade marshal, Cllr Goff Beck, towards the war memorial at the recreation ground.

There will be a two minute silence at 11am and wreath laying ceremony, followed by the Last Post and Reveille.

Later that day, a special ceremony will take place at the Indian Memorial Obelisk in Barton on Sea at 3pm.

In the evening, New Milton will join 1,000 cities and towns across the UK in lighting a beacon at 7pm on the clifftop at Barton on Sea. This will be a community event from 6pm with a marching band and parade, exhibition and displays.
