A MAN has appealed for help after he was hospitalised by an attack in a busy Bournemouth bar.

Zack McGrellis, 23, was left with scars to his face after he was hit around the head with a glass at Revolution Bar on Old Christchurch Road in the early hours of Saturday, July 21.

Police were called to the scene at around 1.45am by the ambulance service after they had initially been sent to the incident.

A police investigation followed, but it failed to lead to any arrests.

Officers assessed CCTV footage from the venue, however there was no footage of the incident, which left Mr McGrellis severely bleeding from his face.

He was taken to Royal Bournemouth Hospital by ambulance to receive further treatment before being released that afternoon.

Mr McGrellis, who has Asperger’s Syndrome, said the incident has impacted him beyond just the physical injuries to his face.

“I think it was not great that the bar had no CCTV showing what had happened,” Mr McGrellis said.

“I am desperate for anyone who saw what happened to come forward and speak to police about it.”

His mother, Joanne, told the Daily Echo that he had not really been the same since the attack, saying it had had a “traumatic” impact on her son.

“At the moment he has no idea who did this to him,” she said.

“He has no clue who this person is, but that person knows who he is and that is very unnerving.”

Mr McGrellis said he could not recall what happened on the night of the attack and was therefore unable to provide police with a description.

A Dorset Police spokesperson said: “Officers conducted a thorough investigation and spoke with potential witnesses, but no description of a suspect could be provided.

All available CCTV was reviewed, however none of the footage covered the incident. The victim also initially declined to engage with officers or provide swabs of his injuries, so there were no forensic opportunities.

“Sadly, without any further lines of enquiry being identified, the investigation is unable to progress further.”

Police said if further information came to light the investigation could be reopened. Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk, via 101@dorset.pnn.police.uk or by calling 101.

The Daily Echo contacted Revolution Bar to discuss the incident, but did not receive a response.
