A YOUNG runner is putting his best foot forward, after being moved by the plight of a youngster his own age with a heart defect.

Nine-year-old Ben Dziduch, who lives in Paddington Grove, Bournemouth, is taking part in this weekend's Bournemouth Marathon Festival to raise money for Julia's House children's hospice.

He is particularly keen to help another nine-year-old boy supported by the charity who suffers from a heart defect and has breathing and feeding difficulties.

The sports-mad youngster, who goes to St Walburgas School and plays for Bournemouth Poppies football club, plays cricket and swims, also took part in last year's Bournemouth Marathon, raising

£80 for Julia's House, which is he is hoping to beat this year.

Ben's mum Dot said: "His dad (my husband) runs marathons and they train together. He raises money by asking our friends, neighbours, teachers and friends at school. At this stage Ben’s headteacher and his football coaches have been very supportive.

"I’d love to show that children can do a little bit more than only play computers, also it’s very important to show empathy for others. Besides that, it’s great to support our town and be involved in the Bournemouth Marathon."
