A PAIR of electric vehicle charging points will be installed in a Boscombe car park.
Bournemouth council has granted planning permission for the charging points in the multi-storey car park of the Sovereign Shopping Centre.
They will take the place of two bays in the north east corner, nearest the bus station.
In a council report, a highways officer states: “The proposed two EV spaces will extend 0.4m beyond the adjacent spaces, however owing to the location of the spaces and the remaining width of the aisle this will not impede access to spaces or interfere with the one-way traffic flow
throughout the car park.
“No alterations to the existing access arrangements to the car park are required.”
Council cabinet member for transport, Cllr Mike Greene, recently called for the borough to become a “champion” for electric vehicles.
Over the 2017-18 financial year, the number of registered plug-in vehicles in Bournemouth increased by around 35 per cent, rising above 200, according to Department for Transport figures, an increase on the previous year of 58 vehicles.
The charging points will be provided by InstaVolt Limited.
