LYMINGTON Town were thumped 7-0 by Torquay United as their impressive FA Cup run hit the buffers.

Dave Lewis’s side had beaten Sandhurst, Frimley Green and Lydney en route to the second qualifying round but found their National South opponents too hot to handle.

In front of a packed house at the Sports Ground and with the BBC’s live streaming service in attendance, the hosts kept it goal-less until nine minutes before the break when Ben Wynter’s cross from the right was headed into his own net by Lewis Brailey.

Moments later, the lead was doubled. Jake Andrews picked out Opi Edwards with a superb cross-field pass and he squared for Jamie Reid to slide home.

Not long after the restart, Andrews whipped the ball in from the left and Ruairi Keating sidefooted into the right corner.

An error by Lymo keeper Nic Jones – who was otherwise excellent – allowed Reid’s deflected pass to be stabbed into the net by Chris Regis.

Gary Johnson’s men did not let up in the closing stages, with Brett Williams tucking away Wynter’s cross and then smashing into the bottom-right corner from the edge of the box.

There was still time for Andrews to sweep home Saikou Janneh’s cross in stoppage time.
