TWO charity events due to take place this weekend have been cancelled due to the weather.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for strong winds and heavy rain from 6am on Sunday until just before midnight.

The Margaret Green Animal Rescue had been due to hold its country fayre at Church Knowle on Sunday.

It is the second major fundraising event the charity has had to cancel this year as its family fun day and dog show in August had to be pulled it was too hot.

Geoff Wright, chief executive at Margaret Green, said: “Our first concern has to be the health and safety of all those on site this weekend preparing and running the event, which is why this very difficult decision has been taken.”

Bournemouth’s first Memory Walk organised by the Alzheimer's Society for Sunday has had to be postponed and will now take place on Saturday, October 13.

Louise Oakley, head of mass participation events at Alzheimer's Society, said: “Following consultation with the event organisers, it was determined that the weather conditions would pose a risk to walkers, volunteers and staff. Their safety is our priority.”
