A NEW Headmaster has taken the reins at Ballard School following the retirement of Alastair Reid after nine years at the helm.

Andrew McCleave joined the New Milton independent school at the start of this term and brings a wealth of experience to the role.

Mr McCleave has worked at several schools in roles including Deputy Head at City of London Freemen's School and Assistant Head at Lady Eleanor Holles School. He has taught in independent, maintained and grammar schools.

The father-of-two is married to Catherine, who also has 20 years' experience in education.

Mr McCleave said: "I have been thoroughly impressed by the teachers and staff at Ballard School who give individual attention to each of our pupils right from their early years.

"The pupils I've met so far are a credit to Ballard and it will be a privilege to work with these young people and help shape their future."

Chair of governors Peter Goodfellow added: "Andrew’s educational achievements have been underpinned by his personal commitment to his pupils’ spiritual, moral and personal development.

"These abilities and attributes make Andrew an ideal appointment with the necessary skills, drive and passion to carry the Ballard legacy forward to even greater achievements."
