A MAN was badly hurt after his leg became trapped under the wheel of a steamroller.

Emergency services were called to Horton Road in Wigbeth, East Dorset, on Sunday.

Fire crews from Ferndown, Wimborne and Blandford rushed to the scene following a call at 3.55pm.

It is understood one of the wheels of the steamroller was being painted at the time when it fell on the man's leg, leaving him trapped.

Crews used high pressure air bags under the guidance of the ambulance service colleagues to lift the steam roller and safely remove the casualty.

He was left in the care of the ambulance service.

A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service said they were called to the incident at 3.57pm.

They attended with a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance.

The Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance also attended.

The man was taken to Southampton General Hospital with reports of a leg injury.
