A BOURNEMOUTH widower has spoken out about his loss, in a bid to help promote a friendship group which proved a vital lifeline.

Tony Goble lost his wife of 17 years, Rosemary, in 2016. The couple had travelled the world together and Tony was left feeling lost. But he has found a form of happiness again through the Pride of Bournemouth Oddfellows group, and now wants to urge others who are feeling lonely to make contact.

The 87-year-old is helping to promote the organisation as it celebrates its ninth annual Great Big Friendship Month with a special event to bring people together.

Tony said: "I had known about the Oddfellows for years, but after Rosemary passed away, I felt alone and I became curious about what they could offer. I wanted to get out and start living my life again. So last year, after seeing the Oddfellows’ Friendship Month advertisement, I decided to pop down to the local group and see what they were all about.

“Getting involved in a group has had a huge impact on my life. Since joining only a year ago, I’ve become part of a social scene again and it has helped raise my spirits and beliefs that great friendships can be made at any age. I stay in touch with really kind people and have things to look forward to all the time.”

The Pride of Bournemouth Oddfellows Branch,. which organises a range of events throughout the year including coffee mornings, lunch clubs and guest speakers is hosting a Bingo and Fish & Chips Supper at Tuckton Social Club in Tuckton Road, Bournemouth, from 7.30pm on Saturday, September 22.
