MOTORISTS stuck in traffic jams on the A338 Spur Road and surrounding roads will be relieved to find the lane closure gone today.

For two weeks, the road will be 'mostly' clear from traffic management as work continues away from the road.

The lane closure on the southbound carriageway between Blackwater and Cooper Dean has caused massive issues over the past two weeks.

Drivers have been stuck in significant queues on the Spur Road, Barrack Road, Matchams Lane, Parley Lane, and through Ferndown as a result of the lane closure.

However, from Saturday two lanes will be back in action for two weeks, although there will be some off-peak daytime lane closures for material deliveries and other work.

From Sunday, September 30 there will be three nights of northbound and southbound road closures to allow temporary steel barriers to be installed to create a safe area for those working.

It will also allow for essential maintenance along the A338.

  • It will be closed between the A31 at Ashley Heath and the Cooper Dean roundabout from 10pm to 6am on Sunday and Tuesday.
  • On Monday, October 1, the closures will start later to accommodate the night match between AFC Bournemouth and Crystal Palace.

This will mean the southbound carriageway will be reduced to one lane again, with lane two closed.

The northbound carriageway will run two narrowed lanes.

Both carriageways will have a 40mph speed limit in force for driver safety as existing barriers will have been removed.

Daytime work will involve bridge works to join together the two bridges that carry the road over the River Stour, and make extensive repairs to these bridges.

Night time work will mainly be earthworks to widen the southbound carriageway into the central reservation.
