MYSTERY surrounds the sudden closure of a popular Ferndown attraction.

Activate Indoor Trampoline Park, which is based at the Ferndown Industrial Estate, suddenly shut on Tuesday.

Bookings were still being taken hours before the venue shut, it is claimed, and a party of children arrived for a birthday at the building in the hours after doors closed.

The Daily Echo has contacted Activate for comment, but has not yet received a response. The company's website has also been taken down.

Russell Bowyer, chair of the Ferndown and Uddens Business Improvement District committee, said he was shocked to hear of the closure.

"Activate was based at the end of Haviland Road," he said.

"I'm very surprised to hear it has closed. It certainly appeared to be an extremely popular attraction.

"Recently, the owners were looking to expand because the business was such a success."

Members of the BID committee had "mixed" feelings about the park, Mr Bowyer said.

"Haviland Road is notoriously difficult for parking," he said.

"People often park on the pavements. Activate was very popular and that added to that problem."

A statement posted on Activate's Facebook page on Tuesday reads: "With great sadness, we announce that Activate and Unit 65 will close its doors today.

"We would like to thank all our hardworking and dedicate team of staff who have made Activate a friendly attraction for families.

"To our loyal customers, we appreciate your support over the past two years."

A number of people who made bookings at the venue say they have been left disappointed and out of pocket.

One man said a "very upset" 12-year-old who had a party booked for Tuesday arrived at the park to find the doors closed.

"It's sad for the staff but it's very wrong [customers weren't] contacted," he said.

Representatives from Activate say they will be available to answer any customer questions about bookings via email until the end of the week.

The centre housed more than 50 trampolines, as well as angled trampolines, Parkour area and dodgeball court. It opened in 2016.
