A YOUNG volunteer is heading to Tanzania to provide aid to deprived communities.

Alice Banaham, 21, will spent ten weeks volunteering with Raleigh International on youth engagement projects, including improving the rates of youth entrepreneurship, managing water and sanitation systems and building community resilience through environmental-led schemes such as reforestation.

The domiciliary care worker, who grew up in Wimborne, undertook a sponsored swim to the Isle of Wight and back last month to raise money for the charity ahead of her trip.

Alice said: "All the funds donated will be going straight towards the charity and enabling me and others to reach communities in Tanzania to deliver worthwhile projects.

"Raleigh's work is all about empowering young people to make a change in deprived communities all over the world. By engaging young people in beneficial aid projects this can create a lasting change at grassroots level and help to transform the lives of some of the worlds poorest communities."

Alice, who is keen to train as a paramedic following her travels, also wants to raise awareness of the charity's work.

She added: "I wanted to take on this challenge as I am very passionate about protecting the environment and fundraising for Raleigh International will enable me to make a lasting change in underdeveloped countries."
