HUNDREDS of thousands of pounds budgeted to upgrade a stretch of Ringwood Road in Poole will not be enough to cover the cost of the work.

The council has £320,000 set aside to improve the road between the junctions with Sea View Road and Old Wareham Road but an inspection by council workers has found that additional funding was required.

Officers have now requested that the project be delayed until the next financial year so that options for the upgrade can be considered before councillors review plans for the road.

A report to the council’s Transportation Advisory Group says: “Surveying and feasibility [work] has commenced and it has been identified that there is the potential to improve the environment for all users along this section of highway.

“The structural maintenance team has also inspected the highway and footways in greater detail and identified that the £320,000 currently earmarked for this work will not be enough.”

The report recommends that the group passes the request for the project to be delayed until the 2019/20 financial year to the council’s cabinet.
