A WOMAN from Dorset was named star baker on Channel 4 show The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice.

Home baker Alaina Salsbury, 31, from Stapehill, was invited to be part of the show after producers wrote to her on Instagram.

During the first episode of The Great British Bake Off, contestants were tasked with creating a regional biscuit.

In the spin-off show, fronted by comedian Jo Brand, Alaina came up with her very own Bournemouth biscuit.

The biscuit was a multi-coloured Viennese Whirl which she named ‘a little bite of Bournemouth’.

Alaina flavoured her biscuits cherry to represent AFC Bournemouth, sea salt for the sea and Jägermeister to reflect the town’s lively nightlife.

While on the show, Alaina had the chance to meet comedian Rosin Conaty who was a guest on the show.

Alaina said: “To win was amazing and I really was chuffed to have put our town on the baking map.”
