BOURNEMOUTH was the most ‘Instragrammed’ beach in the UK this summer.

Holiday comparison site, TravelSupermarket, has compiled a list of the 25 most photographed beaches on photo and video-sharing platform, Instragram.

Bournemouth came out on top with #bournemouthbeach being used 79,500 times.

The second most popular beach was Herne Bay in Kent, followed by Scarborough beach and Fistral Beach in Newquay with Newquay’s Watergate Bay coming in fifth.

In more good news for Dorset, five of the county’s beaches were named some of the 25 most popular in the UK.

Monmouth, Weymouth, Chesil Beach and Sandbanks also appeared in the list.

Emma Grimster, of TravelSupermarket said: “A visit to any British beach presents an array of photo opportunities such as scenic snaps or those of ourselves, family and friends enjoying time outdoors. By looking at images shared and their hashtags, we were able to identify the most popular and most photogenic beaches in the UK.”

Earlier this year, Bournemouth was named one of the most 'Instagrammed' beaches in the world along with the likes of Australia's Whitehaven Beach and Lanikai Beach in Hawaii.
