The 1988 Christchurch Carnival was reported to be one of the biggest carnivals ever with 65 entries in the procession including floats, marching bands and majorettes. The carnival made its way from Stanpit Recreation Ground, along the High Street to end at Christchurch Quay. The carnival was part of the 80th Christchurch Regatta and the four days of events included a hilarious ‘It’s a Knock out’ competition at the Two Rivers Meet Leisure Centre, traditional rowing competition at the Quay, firework display, folk festival and the carnival procession provided the regatta’s glittering finale.
