IN 1997 following the release of the smash hit film The Full Monty, a team from Bournemouth’s former radio station 2CR FM staged their own Full Monty tribute.

Now, 21 years later, the boys are back for one night only to go the Full Monty for a good cause.

The show aims to raise awareness of men’s cancer and funds for Macmillan Caring Locally in Christchurch.

So what inspired the guys to reunite and do it all again?

Producer Caroline Barrett, formerly known as 2CRFM’s Sweet Caroline, The Exotic Fan Dancer, lost her father last October to lung cancer, originally triggered from an earlier fight with prostate cancer.

During his final months, Macmillan Caring Locally took great care of her Dad, and since his passing, Caroline has been looking for ideas to raise funds for Macmillan as a way of saying thank you.

“In April of this year the Bournemouth Daily Echo published a full page article about the original 2CRFM event in the ‘Our Memories of the Past’ section. After reading the article it was just the inspiration I needed,” she explains.

“I decided it was time to reunite the boys who have not seen or spoken to each other since they took to the stage and did the Full Monty in front of 500 excited ladies at the Moat House Hotel back in 1997.

“After several phone calls and Facebook messages, I have managed to track down four out of the five, three of whom have said yes and have agreed to do it all again 21 years on!”

Plumber Barry Scammell, the then Greengrocer Simon Crabb and ex-chauffeur Steve Maidment will be appearing in the Full Monty Revisited on Friday, November 2 at the Tivoli Theatre in Wimborne.

Simon is now living in Ireland and is flying back especially to be involved.

Steve, who was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2014 will be joined on stage by his son, Billy Maidment.

Completing the line up is Billy’s best friend Charlie Patrick.

Caroline adds: “With an age range from 20–60, there really is something for everyone! There will be comedy from Lucinda Lashes and smooth sounds of Alexander The Soul Man.”

The evening is sponsored by MPH Plumbing, Heating and Bathrooms and is in association with Sands Hair Design.

Tickets are now on sale at £22.50 (over-18s only). To book, call the Tivoli Box office 01202 885566 or go online tivoliwimborne.co.uk
