Hi readers, it’s Emily and William wondering why people put too much sugar in their coffee and salt on their food.

We all know it’s bad for us and yet a lot of us still do it. Why? We think people do it to enhance the flavour. We also wonder if having sugar makes you want a bit more, and you end up with a sweet tooth?

With salt, we think it can help make the food taste better. If only pepper tasted better, and wasn’t so strong, we might use it more. Some people say that if food is cooked really well, it doesn’t need salt. However many people will still put salt on it.

We all know too much sugar is bad because it can give you diabetes and other diseases. Salt can give us high blood pressure and other things.

We both want to cut down, so are giving ourselves a September challenge. For the whole month we will cut back on sugar and salt. Every time we go to put sugar in our coffee, choose a sugary snack or add salt to our food, we will say STOP to ourselves, and decide if we really need it.

We wonder if cutting back for a month will reduce our cravings for sugar and salt. We think it’s really important for our health.

Anyone want to join us for this challenge? Or even sponsor us? What about 10p or £1 for every day of September? We will give any money raised to the Friendship Club. We like the idea of getting healthy and raising funds for a good cause. You can sponsor us by emailing office@peoplefirstdorset.org.uk.
