BASED in Larmer Tree Gardens, End of the Road Festival occupies much of the same site as The Larmer Tree Festival but is a much larger affair.

The line up includes a real eclectic selection of bands, comedians and various other acts and activities with St Vincent and Vampire Weekend probably the biggest draws but it also has real strength in depth to keep everyone happy.

Here are our five highlights from End of the Road Festival:

1. St. Vincent: I have never seen her before but her reputation as a singer, songwriter and performer proved to be well founded with a stunning set of guitar driven songs lighting up the main stage on the Friday night. This is someone I will definitely be seeing again when she tours.

2. Fat White Family: Friday night saw my first contender for set of the festival with Fat White Families blast on the main stage. Front man Lias covered every inch of the stage and then decided to grace the crowd with his presence. The crowd lapped it up with I Am Mark E Smith providing my highlight of the set.

3. Idles: An absolute festival highlight for anyone who catches their set. The guys from Bristol have built a real reputation as an amazing live act that will always excite and entertain. Excursions into the crowd are common with guitars and bits of the drum kit joining them on occasions.

4. The people: From my experience this was a good natured festival with everyone from the crowd, security and festival staff being friendly and willing to help whenever needed. A great atmosphere over the whole weekend.

5. All of the bands I have never heard of: It’s rare to go to a festival and discover some brilliant bands that you've never heard of but end up becoming your favourite hour of the weekend. You expect the headliners to have honed their craft and put on a good show so when they do it’s great but no real surprise.

It’s when you drop into a tent or one of the smaller stages and see someone that makes you glad you wandered off the beaten track. This is how I discovered Idles, Friendly Fires and many others.
