CIVIC chiefs are set to build new waste and recycling facilities across the county through new a development plan.

Dorset County Council in partnership with the Borough of Bournemouth and Poole councils have revealed it's Waste Plan which considers what kind of waste is being produced in Dorset, how it is currently being managed and how this might change.

It also identifies sites to meet the need for new waste management facilities in the future.

The plan includes new or improved household recycling facilities or transfer stations in five areas which include Dorchester, Blandford, Gillingham, Wareham and Woolsbridge.

Four sites are also included to manage black bag waste which includes and Binnegar Environmental Park near Wareham.

In addition, an extension to the Maiden Newton sewage treatment works is proposed while land at Bourne Park, Piddlehinton, is being included in the plan for green waste composting.

The Secretary of State appointed Inspector Nicolas Palmer to conduct an examination to consider whether the Waste Plan had been prepared in accordance with legal and procedural requirements.

Public hearing sessions were then held earlier in the summer to consider the proposals.

People are now being encouraging to have their say considering the issues discussed and the changes that are proposed to the Waste Plan.

Cllr Daryl Turner, Dorset County Council’s Cabinet member for natural and built environment, said: "We strongly encourage people to give us their views on the proposed changes over the next six weeks. This is people’s final opportunity to have their say on proposals."
