ART BROUGHT TO LIFE

Artistic work will be brought to life at at event at Maiden Castle.

TAKE A STROLL

The Dorchester Strollers meet regularly in and around the town and are always open to new members.

The strollers walk with trained health walkers every Monday at 10.30am and Tuesday at 2.15pm.

The group also meet on occasional Thursday and Sunday afternoons.

Walks last up to one hour and are free.

TAKES TWO TO TANGO

A Tango Festival will be coming to Dorchester Corn Exchange from Friday, September 21 until Sunday, September 23.

The Saturday will see the festival come alive with 'Los Milonguitas'.

QUIZ NIGHT

A quiz night will be held at Brownsword Hall in Pummery Square in Poundbury.

It will be held on Saturday, September 28 from 7.30pm.

Phil Bardswell will be leading the evening.

GHOSTLY WALKS

Ghost walks, led by the Town Crier Alistair Chisholm, are held every Thursday night from April to October.

The walks start at 8pm at The Kings Arms Hotel on High East Street.

There will be a Halloween Ghost Walk special on Wednesday, October 31.

HERITAGE WEEK

As part of Dorset Architectural Heritage Week, which runs from Tuesday, September 13 until Thursday, September 20, various buildings and sites will be open to the public.

There will also be tours and visits to places normally closed to the public.

On Sunday, September 16 High West and High East Street will be closed to all traffic from 10am until 4pm from Top o' Town to Swan Bridge as part of the week.

It will be a opportunity for members of the public to walk and appreciate the wonderful architecture and the stories which accompany many of the county town's buildings on its main street.

DEMENTIA SUPPORT

A dementia Support Group meeting will be held at Rowan Cottage on Monday, September 10.

The Group was launched by Age UK Dorchester and is open to anyone who has been affected by dementia, whether they themselves have it. or if they support someone else who does.

The group will be from 10.30am until 12pm and will be an opportunity for people to meet others in a similar situation.

There will also be refreshments available.

The group will be run by the people who attend.

FASHION SHOW

A vintage fashion show will be coming to Dorchester in August to help raise funds for a vital trust.

The show will be held at Duke’s Auctioneers in Brewery Square on Thursday, August 30.

There will a host of vintage accessories and clothes on show.

There will be cream teas provided by Yalbury and Yvons Café from 4pm and 5.30pm with free entry.

The ticketed fashion show will start at 6pm with a reception and canapes, followed by the show at 7.30pm.

The event will be raising funds for The Alcohol Education Trust.

GIN FEST

A GIN Festival will be coming to the Corn Exchange from 7pm until 11pm on Saturday, September 1.

There will be a chance to taste a variety of gins.

BUTTON WORKSHOP

A beginners Dorset button workshop will be held at the Dorset Centre for the Creative Arts on Middle Farm Way in Poundbury.

People attending the workshop will be provided with all the materials necessary to begin creating tradition Dorset Cross Wheel buttons and also learn how to introduce colour changes to their work.

TALK ON FORGIVENESS

A talk on the word forgiveness will be held at St Peter's Church from 9am until 5pm on Friday, September 14.

The walk will centre on dealing with conflict and violence and has been organised in conjunction with Shire Hall.

An afternoon of readings by Tim Laycock and members of the William Barnes Society has been organised.

It will be held at Max Gate from 2.30pm on Saturday, September 15.

A community lecture will be taking place at the Thomas Hardye School theatre from 7pm onwards on Monday, September 24.

The lecture will be on adventures in space.
