Staff at a Dorchester care home have been praised for their 'friendly and caring' attitudes.

Montrose Care Home on Prince of Wales Road was rated 'good' across the board at its latest Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection.

It is a residential care home for 22 older people with dementia and sensory impairment and 17 people were living at the home at the time of inspection.

The report highlighted the hard work and commitment of its staff and management.

In the report, inspectors wrote that that family had described the staff as "friendly and caring" and "nothing is too much trouble" for them.

One family comment read: "The staff are right at the top and get my highest mark."

Inspectors added that the registered manager "had a clear vision for developing the service" and told them she would "never be completely satisfied".

The report noted that there were enough staff on duty to meet people's needs and staff were clear on their responsibilities with regards to infection control and keeping people safe.

All areas of the home were kept clean to minimise the risks of the spread of infection.

People's care plans were frequently reviewed and updated to meet changing needs

The head chef told inspectors there was a four weekly menu.

The report read: "The chef was aware of peoples dietary requirements including their likes and dislikes. They told us they went around each morning informing people what the

meal options were and offering alternative's if people didn't like the choices given. We observed this happening on both days of the inspection.

"We observed people eating and found that there was a relaxed atmosphere. Food looked appetising and plentiful."

Registered manager, Jennifer Harding said: "Words simply cannot express how extremely proud I am of the staff at Montrose. Each and every one has played a significant part in the consistently excellent level of love and care shown to all of our residents and have all deserved the recognition for the exceptional comments within our CQC report which took place in July.

The feedback I received from the inspectors on the final day of our inspection was out of this world. We were highly commended for the unique ‘family-like' culture within the home which the inspectors were overwhelmed by. I just want to share our positive rating of ‘Good’ and celebrate it with all who know us and shed some positivity onto the Health and Social Care Sector which is so often negative.

"I have managed Montrose for six and a half years, and with the support and hard work of my team have turned it in to a home which provides exceptional levels of care for the elderly and those with dementia. We have maintained the rating of ‘Good’ in all areas since my first inspection in 2013 and whilst the bar rises we just keep on getting better and better in order to maintain this recognition for all that we do."
