ZOMBIES will be on the prowl in the New Forest next month. But don’t panic as it’s all for fun.

The Zombie Escape Adventure Run comes to Avon Tyrell activity centre in Bransgore on Sunday, September 23.

Brave participants will have to make their way around a 2k, 5k or 10k course while being chased by the undead with runners encouraged to raise money for Dorset Mind.

The 2k run will be a family fun run with ‘friendlier’ zombies so not to scare young runners.

All runners will start with three lives and the aim of the event is to have one life intact at the end of the course.

For anyone that needs a boost there will be hidden first aid kits hidden around the course.

The event follows on from the Zombie Escape 5k which was held in Kings Park last November.

This year organisers say there will be more mud, more challenges and more frights.

Steen Stones, race director, said: “We did the first zombie event last year when we tested it at Kings Park and it was very successful and we decided to move to a different location and it really suits the theme of the event.”

Around 100 people have already registered to volunteer and between 400 and 500 runners are expected to take part in the races.

Students from the Arts University Bournemouth will also be on hand on the day to do make-up and special effects for participants.

Steen added: “I think people are looking for something a bit different. There are lots of obstacle course events and the aim of the day is to have fun and create that excitement and adrenaline of people chasing you.”

Over the bank holiday weekend there will be a special discount for individuals and groups that sign up with 20 per cent for anyone who signs up to the 5k or 10k races.
